Vogelzang Law To Participate in the Fifth Annual Free To Breathe Yoga Event

The Lung Cancer Research Foundation will host its fifth annual Free to Breathe Yoga event Saturday, June 20, 2020, from 11 a.m. to noon EDT. Due to social distancing guidelines and stay-at-home recommendations during the COVID-19 pandemic, the fundraising event will be going virtual for the first time since its creation in 2015. The LCRF is encouraging attendees to enjoy the event from wherever they are by including friends and family in the ongoing experience.

“Going virtual, we figured, would be a great opportunity for us to really allow everybody or anybody to participate,” said Nital Patel, the regional events manager for the LCRF.

Attendees at this year’s event can look forward to flowing through some fun and easy yoga poses, hearing from an inspiring lung cancer survivor, meeting an investigator doing cutting-edge research, and honoring loved ones. For Natalie Koberstein, this will be her fifth year as a yoga instructor for the event. Considering the switch to a virtual platform, Koberstein is excited to see how attendees will personalize their yoga spaces.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how people create an environment in their own homes,” said Koberstein. We’ll be joined virtually, so everyone gets to create their own space that feels the best for them.”

Koberstein shares a special connection with the LCRF and the Free to Breathe Yoga event due to her father’s life-changing diagnosis with lung cancer. Her father was 65 when he was diagnosed, and battled his cancer for two and a half years before passing.

“They estimated he’d live for about six months, the tumors had metastasized to his brain and his brainstem,” said Koberstein. “He was able to get some really specific treatments that kept him around for about two and a half years. His treatment path really came from research done by lung cancer researchers and we got to have him around for a lot longer, which was really, really cool.”

The LCRF is committed to improving cancer outcomes by funding research for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure of lung cancer. To date, the LCRF has funded 370 research grants totaling nearly $34 million. The Free to Breathe Yoga event helps to raise money and awareness about the effects of lung cancer and the need for more research.

The fundraising event is open to everyone from the general public, and participants are encouraged to either join a fundraising team or join individually.
