As 2018 comes to a close, the Vogelzang Law team is taking time to reflect on a busy and successful year. Over the course of the last twelve months, the firm was honored to participate in many great fundraisers, events around town, and even host our very own 5K race. With 2019 around the corner, the team is excited to see where the new year will take our ever-growing team and the clients and families we’re proud to serve.
Vogelzang Law was lucky to attend so many excellent fundraisers, conferences, and events throughout the year which gave back to the cancer community. In March, the team attended the American Lung Association’s annual Fight for Air Climb at the Presidential Towers, an event that raises awareness of the deep importance of clean air and healthy lungs. Our team made a great showing for the climb, and we’re excited to join the ALA again in 2019. As a mesothelioma law firm, we understand the importance of advocating for lung health, and organizations like the ALA are paving the way to a healthier future.
In April, we were fortunate to attend the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization Conference in Washington, D.C. Every year, this conference unites mesothelioma and asbestos specialists, policymakers, unions, and patients currently fighting the disease from all over the world. This year, 18 countries were represented as the ADAO discussed how to best advocate for those who have been harmed by dangerous asbestos exposure.
One of the biggest highlights of the year for Vogelzang Law came in September, as we kicked off our first annual Mesothelioma Race for Justice 5K. The race benefitted the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, one of our favorite partner charities and the nation’s leading nonprofit advocating for a mesothelioma cure. The Meso Foundation helps fund research and educational tools for families facing a mesothelioma diagnosis. Our first Race for Justice was a great success; over 75 runners participated at the beautiful Lake County Forest Preserve Half Day location and together, we raised more than $6,300 to contribute to the Meso Foundation’s mission. Stay tuned for updates about the 2019 race, which will take place on September 21, 2019.
October was another whirlwind month as the firm made several great strides. Our Lead Counsel Nicholas Vogelzang presented at the National Asbestos Litigation Conference hosted by Perrin Conferences. Each year, this conference unites the best minds in asbestos litigation, including plaintiff attorneys, defense attorneys, and judges in order to discuss the future of asbestos law. Nicholas presented on several of the most notable recent asbestos and mesothelioma cases and their impacts on the industry.
In addition, he was sworn in to the Iowa Bar in November by Supreme Court Justice Thomas Waterman. This is an exciting development for the firm; we look forward to helping many more families in Iowa. The very next month, Vogelzang Law added Wisconsin to the roster when Nicholas Vogelzang was sworn in to the Wisconsin Bar by Illinois Supreme Court Judge Anne Burke. In 2019, Vogelzang Law will proudly serve Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
Thanks to the hard work of our ever-growing team, the firm was able to help more families than ever before this year, taking on a variety of exciting cases and representing a variety of mesothelioma cases. We were honored to secure settlements for numerous individuals and families, including many military veterans and industrial workers who helped build America. Some of our notable victories this year included settlements on behalf a U.S. Army veteran and heating worker and a lifelong chemical engineer. We were incredibly proud to obtain settlement on behalf of a woman who suffered secondary exposure to asbestos on her husband’s work clothes, an issue we were proud to help bring to light. Last month, we helped another family get closure after the difficult loss of their father, who worked as a window glazier and passed away from mesothelioma. Each family reminds us how important it is to continue the fight for justice on behalf of those affected by asbestos.
2018 was a great year for Vogelzang Law, as the firm expanded its reach and its impact on the local cancer community. Many thanks to all of the organizations who work so hard on behalf of mesothelioma patients everywhere; we wish you all a wonderful 2019!
