Chicago Tuesday Asbestos Call Recap: Trials Set for 2019

Chicago, IL (October 2, 2018) —

The Daley Center hosts an Asbestos Call every other Tuesday, which serves as the time and place to track the progress of a lawsuit in preparation for the trial date. The Vogelzang Law blog provides bi-weekly Asbestos Call updates.

This week, the Vogelzang Law team was focused on 2019, setting three cases for trial in the upcoming year. These trials brings Vogelzang Law’s total number of 2019 cases up to twelve, and the litigation team is hard at work preparing as the new year approaches. Attorney Wyatt Berkover represented the Vogelzang Law team at Tuesday’s Asbestos Call to set dates for three trials for next year.

Mr. Berkover set a date for trial in the case of Mr. Robert Bergren, a Navy veteran who enjoyed a lengthy career as a machinist at various jobsites following his service.

His employment experiences included working at a foundry and working on Lake Michigan car ferries. He also worked at an equipment manufacturing facility and at various power plants throughout his career.

At these locations, he was exposed to asbestos while working firsthand and in proximity to a multitude of asbestos-containing products.

His trial is set for September 2019.

A date was also set for Mrs. Mary Miller, who made her career as a factory worker for many years. Mrs. Miller worked with and around numerous asbestos-containing products between 1969 and 2009 at a manufacturing facility. Industrial workers remain among the most at-risk group for asbestos exposure and subsequent mesothelioma.

Attorney Michael Maienza will represent Mrs. Miller at trial in October 2019, ensuring a speedy trial process for her and her family.

In the final development at yesterday’s call, Berkover set a date for trial in the case of the late Mr. Nicholas Sobol, a World War II Army veteran who passed away in May 2017. Mr. Sobol worked between 1940 and 1988 at a manufacturing facility as a machinist and plant supervisor. During the course of his employment, he was routinely exposed to asbestos from products throughout the facility.

Lead Counsel Nicholas Vogelzang will represent Mr. Sobol in July 2019.

The Vogelzang Law team continues to advocate for families across America who have been impacted by asbestos. Mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive cancer linked to asbestos fibers, which are easily inhaled when working with asbestos materials. As a result, insulators, pipefitters, construction workers, mechanics, and more are among the most at-risk groups.
