Vogelzang Law’s clerkship program is designed to provide aspiring legal professionals with meaningful, hands-on experience in a supportive and flexible environment. Our law clerks work closely with our attorneys on real cases, gaining practical exposure to legal research, drafting, case strategy, and client matters that go far beyond the classroom. Vogelzang Law was founded in 2016 with the goal of mentoring and teaching young attorneys how to litigate mesothelioma cases the right way. Mesothelioma and lung cancer patients and their families are suffering a devastating health crisis through no fault of their own. We practice with integrity and compassion, fighting for justice for our clients.

We are deeply embedded in our local community. From the Fight For Air Climb with the ALA to our work with Gildas Club Chicago and the Meso Foundation, we support Chicago and the cancer community. Staff Accountant

Vogelzang Law is seeking a is seeking a Staff Accountant (entry or mid-level accounting professional) to join our Finance Department. Our ideal candidate possesses 3 to 5 years of accounting experience with a strong attention to detail, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Review invoices for appropriate documentation prior to payment
  • Perform invoice and general-ledger data entry
  • Process payment for all accounts payable
  • Handling of expense reports
  • Applying and recording settlement payments
  • Recording deposits
  • Billing co-counsel for client expenses
  • Helping answer accounting and financial questions to assist our clients when needed
  • Help develop and implement accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures
  • Prepare 1099’s
  • Assisting our Controller with activities in the IOLTA accounts

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Minimum 2 to 5 years of relevant experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online is required
  • Experience with Expensify would be an advantage
  • Experience with Salesforce is preferred

Personal Injury Asbestos Investigator

Vogelzang Law is seeking a Personal Injury Asbestos Investigator to join our team. This role is essential to building strong cases by uncovering work histories, identifying exposure sources, and developing accurate timelines of our clients’ occupational backgrounds.

We are open to both part-time and full-time arrangements and offer a competitive salary and benefits package. Our ideal candidate is detail-oriented, thorough, and dedicated to the pursuit of bringing our clients justice.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Investigate job sites, products, and companies associated with potential asbestos exposure.
  • Conduct interviews of clients/potential clients, family members, coworkers, experts, and other parties to gather detailed work and exposure histories.
  • Collect, review, and organize relevant materials and records (employment, medical, union, social security, etc.) and other materials.
  • Identify and document potential defendants, asbestos-containing products, and exposure pathways. Complete product identification summaries based off findings.
  • Investigate and visit worksites, job sites, and product exposure sources.
  • Prepare clear, thorough investigative reports and exposure summaries for attorneys.
  • Assist attorneys and paralegals during case development, depositions, and trial preparation as needed.
  • Maintain accurate, organized records within our case management system.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in asbestos, toxic tort, personal injury, or related investigations required.
  • Strong interviewing, listening, and fact-gathering skills.
  • Ability to analyze work histories and identify patterns and exposure sources.
  • Excellent communication skills and writing abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable working with clients who may be experiencing serious illness.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Occasional travel is required.

Liens Administrator

Vogelzang Law is seeking a Liens Administrator to provide support to our team.

This is a full-time position offering a competitive salary and benefits package. The work schedule for this position will require four days a week in office and one day of remote work per week.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Organize, collect and document sensitive personal information
  • Review client files
  • Meticulously track and enter case activity into our case management system
  • Perform audits of client files and ensure accuracy of third-party reports
  • Communicate and update clients with case status
  • Mail medical lien packets and manage the corresponding work queue
  • Report payments to the lien holder/negotiator
  • Work with the finance team in distributing and tracking payments
  • Verify accuracy of lien holder/negotiator reports, ensuring payments have been credited to clients’ account
  • Review reports to ensure Liens are being resolved and verify Settlement monies are on hand to pay
  • Issue Lien payments to outsourced resolution company as required
  • Answer questions of Settlement Coordinator and provide guidance as needed
  • Update Salesforce with the respective Lien status; payment detail
  • Answer Client’s questions about Liens
  • Communicate with lien holder/negotiator regarding claims and policy language; follow up for receipt of information and documents
  • Draft Proofs of Representation and other documents needed for lien negotiation
  • Manage and complete tasks assigned to the Commercial Lien queue
  • Document lien files and properly store relevant lien information
  • Ensure accurate allocation of liens and validation of settlement payments, following direction provided by the Liens Attorney
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Senior Intake Specialist

Vogelzang Law is seeking a Senior Intake Specialist to receive/qualify prospective clients and to provide support for our team. Responsibilities Include:

  • Own the intake process from beginning to end.
  • Answer and screen inquiry calls and emails from prospective clients.
  • Survey prospective clients and empathize with them on the details of their case. Obtain critical information and documentation from clients relevant to their prospective case.
  • Assist with outgoing correspondence, contracts, and the data entry and onboarding of new clients.
  • Continuously follow up on leads.
  • Perform other data entry as necessary.
  • Process (scan and distribute) mail and packages.
  • Perform conflict checks
  • Collaborate with marketing department on outbound lead generation initiatives.
  • Regularly check in on clients’ well-being and provide them with updates
  • Audit leads list and make follow up contact to convert cold leads.
  • Other duties as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • The qualified candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working at a personal injury firm, with a preference for asbestos and/or mass tort experience.
  • Comfortable with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Salesforce preferred but not required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Top-notch organizational skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Proven track record in customer service.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize.
