In 2000, a coalition of patients, families, doctors (including Dr. Nicholas J. Vogelzang), and other advocates came together to create an independent funding source for mesothelioma research. To date, it is the only nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to ending mesothelioma.
In addition to providing funding for mesothelioma grants, it has grown into an excellent resource for patients and their families, and a place where patients and loved ones can share stories and information about fighting cancer.
Members of the Vogelzang Law team regularly attend the International Symposium on Malignant Mesothelioma, where they can meet with the nation’s top mesothelioma experts and participate in workshops.
Vogelzang Law has supported the Meso Foundation and its work for many years, both through attending conferences and providing financial support. From 2018 to 2023, Vogelzang Law organized the Mesothelioma Race for Justice 5K, raising over $80,000 for the Meso Foundation!
We are hopeful the Meso Foundation will continue to grow, enabling it to fill the inequitable funding deficit for mesothelioma research.
The University of Chicago is one of the leading institutions in mesothelioma research and clinical trials in the United States, attracting patients from around the globe. Due mainly to the incredible work and leadership of Dr. Hedy Kindler, the University of Chicago’s mesothelioma program has made great strides in increasing the life expectancy for victims of mesothelioma.
The Vogelzang family has been committed to supporting the University of Chicago’s mesothelioma program since 2004. Our donations have assisted with purchasing new equipment, funding clinical trials, and providing funding for hospital staff.
Gilda’s Club Chicago serves as a vital resource for individuals affected by cancer, offering a sense of belonging and community at a time when it’s most needed. We have seen firsthand how this organization has had a positive impact on individuals and families. We take great pride in our support for this outstanding organization, which works towards creating a welcoming community and offering additional resources to help those facing cancer.
In 2022, we proudly selected Gilda’s Club Chicago as our featured charity for our annual golf outing. This event brings our community together in the hope of raising awareness and funding for organizations making a real difference, such as Gilda’s Club Chicago. Through the generosity of our partners, clients, and supporters, we raised over $11,000 to help sustain and expand Gilda’s Club’s free programming for cancer patients and their families.
The American Lung Association (ALA) is one of the nation’s leading organizations fighting for clean air and lung health. The ALA aims to combat lung cancer and air pollution through research, education, and patient advocacy outreach while increasing awareness about healthy living. The organization also strives to lessen lung disease’s burden on its victims and their families. Fundraising efforts by the ALA have supported the research and discovery of innovative treatments for lung disease.
Vogelzang Law supports the ALA and its commitment to a future free of lung disease, and we are excited about future opportunities to work together. In previous years, we also participated in the American Lung Association’s Fight For Air Climb in downtown Chicago.
The Rush Lung Center offers the most advanced diagnostic and treatment options for lung cancer, including robot-assisted bronchoscopy, minimally invasive surgery, precision radiation techniques, and targeted chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
Patients have access to various clinical trials investigating novel approaches to lung cancer treatment. Rush’s lung cancer screening sites are designated centers of excellence by the Lung Cancer Alliance — a designation given to centers that meet the highest standards for lung cancer screening. In addition, U.S. News & World Report has consistently ranked Rush University Medical Center among the best in the U.S. for cancer care, pulmonology care, and lung surgery.
Vogelzang Law is proud to partner with Rush and its mission to make screenings more accessible and facilitate early cancer detection. Funds raised at the VL Charity Golf Outing are directly allocated to Rush’s screening program, helping to expand its reach and impact in our community.
